Ten great stress reducers

By Erin Dix of jewelryjoan

1. One of the best ways to relieve stress is to exercise your body. There are so many ways of achieving this and most of them are fun. Go for a bike ride, a walk, play sports, yoga, lift weights, ski, dancing and swimming are just a few.

2. Reading a good book can sometimes take your mind off the stresses of day to day life. So go to your local library or bookstore, pick out a book that you might be interested in and find a nice quiet place to read.

3. Listening to uplifting music can be a very good experience if you are suffering from the blues.

4. Sometimes the best medicine for all that ails you is laughter. Listen to a funny story, joke with friends, go see some live comedy, watch a funny movie. Smile lots and see the stress melt away.

5. A deep relaxing massage from a friend, loved one or better yet a professional massage therapist. This Can knead away a lot of built up anxiety and stress one might have.

6. The company of some animals can often have a calming and stress reducing effect. Take your dog for a walk or take some time to pet your cat. Horse back riding or bird watching can also be good stress reducers.

7. Often overlooked but quite simply one of the best ways to relieve stress is sex. The physical benefits are numerous but unfortunately stressed people often don't get enough sex in their lives.

8. Meditation is where you train your mind to focus on "nothing" allowing your brain to stop concentrating on everything worldly and lowering your stress level. Studys have shown that your body can release healthy hormones in a meditative state, that almost mimics what happens during sleep.

9. Deep breathing Breathing exercises has multiple benefits for your body. It provides more oxygen for your blood which in turn empowers your brain and relaxes your muscles and mind.

10. Get in tune with nature. Try and break away from the TV or computer on your day off. Do something new like hiking, camping, fishing or simply just go outside and look at the stars at night or the ocean at the beach for an hour or two.
Sometimes the simplest things in life are what we crave the most but often overlook them in our busy and sometimes hectic lifestyles.
